Two talented young people head to California looking for fame, but find love along the way in this romantic drama. Luke (Steven Strait) is a struggling rock musician who has decided to leave New York City for the seemingly greener pastures of Los Angeles. A few days before he leaves, he spots a beautiful girl on the subway who gives him a big smile, giving him brief second thoughts. However, Luke heads out to L.A. anyway, and after months of scuffling lands a gig — and sees the beautiful girl, Brier (Pell James), in the audience. Brier is an aspiring actress who, like Luke, came to L.A. to boost her career; she’s taking acting classes at a well-respected workshop, and has landed a less-than-glamorous but lucrative deodorant commercial. Luke and Brier strike up a friendship, though it’s obvious he’s interested in something deeper; as Luke tries to score a record deal, Brier and her best friend Clea (Ashlee Simpson) try to spruce up his image and create some buzz about his music. But as Luke falls hard for Brier, she develops greater qualms about getting involved with a musician who will spend half his life on the road, and their shared desire for that big break may be the thing that keeps them apart. Undiscovered also stars Carrie Fisher, Kip Pardue, and Fisher Stevens.

Porter (Mel Gibson) is pulled into a heist by his old friend, Val (Brian De Palma regular, Gregg Henry). As they’re stealing $130,000 in laundered drug money from Chinese Triads, no one is going to call the police. Everything goes smoothly until Porter’s wife, Lynn (Deborah Kara Unger), shoots Porter in the back. After Val had shown Lynn a photo of Porter in the arms of another girl (Maria Bello), the two planned the double-cross together to pay off Val’s mob debts so he could return to “The Syndicate.” They didn’t plan well enough, though, because five months later Porter’s back, a complete sociopath who wants his $70,000. Brian Helgeland, the screenwriter for L.A. Confidential and Conspiracy Theory, makes his directing debut with this adaptation of the novel The Hunter by Donald E. Westlake writing under the pseudonym, Richard Stark. The same novel served as the basis for John Boorman’s Point Blank starring Lee Marvin.

Not to be confused with the 1939 cinematic classic The Wizard of Oz starring Judy Garland, this 1991 adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s beloved story is an animated short directed by Jim Simon, one of the people behind the Care Bears and Smurfs animated series. The film follows the adventures of Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion as they journey through the magical land of Oz.

With Interview, his fourth directorial outing, American actor-cum-director Steve Buscemi reworks a 2003 feature by the ill-fated Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh. Van Gogh originally intended to shoot an English-language version of the picture himself, but Buscemi signed on after the director’s late 2004 assassination. The story concerns Pierre Peders (Buscemi) a steel-tough political correspondent infuriated by his editor’s decision to hogtie him to a tabloid-level story about the seemingly vapid actress and blonde paparazzi goddess Katya (Sienna Miller). Pierre’s chagrin doubles given the news of a searing White House scandal that is just breaking; instead of covering the piece, Peders must visit a posh Manhattan restaurant and interview Katya - someone he instantly detests. The one-on-one is more of a disaster than either could have predicted, but by some strange twist of fate, Pierre is injured and courted back to Katya’s apartment. Once there, liquor is downed, coke is consumed, minor violence erupts, and the two begin to dance a pas-de-deux - attempting, not so subtly, to out-maneuver one another psychologically, as dark secrets and long-hidden vulnerabilities emerge.

Dean (Justin Long) and Monty (Ryan Reynolds) are two longtime friends who work as waiters as Shenanigan’s, a self-consciously “fun” chain restaurant. Both have been working at the restaurant since they graduated from high school; it’s only recently occurred to Dean that he has nothing to show for the last four years of his life but a community college diploma and his name tag from work, and he’s developed a sudden urgency to make something of himself. Monty, on the other hand, is more interested in making time with the women on the wait staff at work than accomplishing anything, though his recent relationship with fellow employee Serena (Anna Faris) has rather dramatically crashed and burned. Over the course of an evening at Shenanigan’s, Dean and Monty confront obnoxious customers and train timid new employee Mitch (John Francis Daley) while dealing with wildly eccentric chef Raddimus (Luis Guzman), control-freak manager Dan (David Koechner), and a kitchen full of crazed cooks, prep workers, and dish-washers. Waiting was the first feature film from writer and director Rob McKittrick.

A man struggling to save the life of another finds himself drawn into a strange netherworld he didn’t know existed in this stylish thriller. Sam Foster (Ewan McGregor) is a psychiatrist living in New York City with his girlfriend, Lila Culpepper (Naomi Watts), who was once one of his patients. However, it’s another one of his patients who becomes the focus of his obsessions when Henry Letham (Ryan Gosling), a disturbed young man whom Foster took over from a colleague, announces during a session that he intends to commit suicide in three days, on his 21st birthday. Sam takes the threat quite seriously and tries to track down Henry, who seems to have disappeared. Sam speaks to a number of Henry’s friends and acquaintances — his mother (Kate Burton), the man he claimed was his father, Dr. Leon Patterson (Bob Hoskins), a waitress who regularly served Henry at the coffee shop where she works (Elizabeth Reaser), and his former therapist Dr. Beth Levy (Janeane Garofalo). As Sam talks to people in Henry’s circle, he finds he’s learning more about himself than the man he’s supposed to save, and he begins to drift into an emotional netherworld where the supposedly dead and the living cross paths. Stay was directed by Marc Forster, who had previously enjoyed breakthrough hits with two very different films, Monster’s Ball and Finding Neverland.
