Prospective parents everywhere, you have a new role model: Adam Sandler! In Big Daddy, Sandler plays 30-year-old bachelor Sonny Koufax, a carefree slob who has never much taken to adult responsibilities. However, as his old buddies start getting married and drifting away, Sonny realizes that if he doesn’t do something soon, he could end up all alone for the rest of his life. When his most recent girlfriend dumps him because she’s sick of being with a man who can’t act like a grown-up, he decides that it’s time to take drastic action to win her back. To convince her that he can face adult responsibilities, he adopts a five-year-old boy, Julian (Cole Sprouse and Dylan Sprouse). However, the plan doesn’t work, and, as Sonny resigns himself to being single a bit longer, he makes a horrifying discovery: he can’t return Julian, and now he really does have to start acting like an adult. Supporting Sandler in Big Daddy are Joey Lauren Adams, Jon Stewart, Josh Mostel, Rob Schneider, and Kristy Swanson.

When a one-night stand that should have stayed that way has unexpected consequences, the reluctant odd couple attempts to transform their tentative relationship into a lasting love in this conception comedy. Twenty-four-year-old entertainment journalist Allison Scott (Katherine Heigl) is on the fast track to the big time, but an alcohol-fueled hookup with responsibility-shirking slacker Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) finds her professional priorities taking a back seat to having a baby. Now, as overgrown kid Ben attempts to assume the responsibilities of fatherhood, he makes the brave decision to stand by Alison. In order to make things work between the pair, however, there’s going to have to be some compromise, and when Allison and Ben decide to take a shot at love, they quickly find that building a relationship from scratch isn’t nearly as easy as making a baby.

The traditions of the western and the gangster film meet head-on in this dark crime drama. Jericho is a small town in Texas that in the 1920s looks much like it did in the 1860s, except that two violent gangs of rival bootleggers have driven away nearly all of the citizens not involved in the booze racket. Strozzi (Ned Eisenberg) leads a gang of Italian rum-runners with the help of his right-hand-man Giorgio (Michael Imperioli), while Doyle (David Patrick Kelly) is the head of an Irish mob, with Hickey (Christopher Walken) serving as his enforcer; the town’s sheriff, Ed Galt (Bruce Dern) is powerless to stop the crime in Jericho, and he mainly tries to stay out of the way and keep an uneasy peace between Strozzi and Doyle. John Smith (Bruce Willis) is a ruthless and amoral gunman on the run from the law who passes through Jericho on his way to Mexico. Sizing up the situation, Smith quickly hatches a scheme by which he’ll sell his services first to one of the gangs, and then the other, eventually turning the two sides against each other while he stays in the middle and takes the profits generated by both sides. Writer and director Walter Hill based his screenplay on Akira Kurosawa’s classic samurai picture Yojimbo, which also inspired Sergio Leone’s ground-breaking spaghetti western A Fistful of Dollars.
