Based on a character created by Robert E. Howard, this fast-paced, occasionally humorous sequel to Conan the Barbarian features the hero (Arnold Schwarzenegger) as he is commissioned by the evil queen Taramis (Sarah Douglas) to safely escort a teen princess (Olivia D’Abo) and her powerful bodyguard (Wilt Chamberlain) to a far away castle to retrieve the magic Horn of Dagon. Unknown to Conan, the queen plans to sacrifice the princess when she returns and inherit her kingdom after the bodyguard kills Conan. The queen’s plans fail to take into consideration Conan’s strength and cunning and the abilities of his sidekicks: the eccentric wizard Akiro (Mako), the wild woman Zula (Grace Jones), and the inept Malak (Tracey Walter). Together the hero and his allies must defeat both mortal and supernatural foes in this voyage to sword-and-sorcery land.

Only three of the original five “young guns” — Billy the Kid (Emilio Estevez), Jose Chavez y Chavez (Lou Diamond Phillips), and Doc Scurlock (Kiefer Sutherland) — return in Young Guns, Part 2, which is the story of Billy the Kid and his race to safety in Old Mexico while being trailed by a group of government agents led by Pat Garrett (William Petersen). Along the way, Billy’s crew gains three new recruits: Arkansas Dave Rudabaugh (Christian Slater), Tom O’Folliard (Balthazar Getty), and Hendry French (Alan Ruck). Though the film suffers from an uneven script, many performances — particularly Slater’s — are surprisingly strong, and the movie looks great. The theme song, “Blaze of Glory”, is performed by Jon Bon Jovi in his first solo appearance; the rocker also has a cameo in the film.

While fleeing the wrath of San Francisco’s Chinese mob, a fighter (Mark Dacasos) ends up taking a dread-lock-wearing writer (Kadeem Hardison) hostage and racing towards the safety of L. A. Along the way, the two must fight their way through a gauntlet of determined and crafty gang members, each one hell bent on destroying the two. Furious and fast paced, this direct-to-video martial arts actioner comes highly recommended by genre aficionadas.
